Good resource for manipulative medicine

I am a 2nd year Osteopathic Med Student and purchaced the book b/c it was was required for the course.

The atlas contains several hundred useful techniques and what makes it nice is it provides step by step instructions for each technique with accompanying pictures that make the instructions easy to understand and memorize for exams.

This book will be a useful resource to remember many techniques throughout my career. I wish they offered it in hardcover b/c I will use it for a long time to come

Got me through my Recertification Boards!

Thought this book was very well presented. The pictures were very clear. I was really able to go back and relearn/review a lot of techniques I was rusty on for my Family Practice Recertification Boards. I did deduct a star because how the book was organized was a bit confusing at times, and so I had to flip all around the place. But the pictures were really well done and the arrow made it very clear HOW the techniques were done. I also really liked that it gave variations on each technique, so that you could find the one that worked best for you or in a specific situation.

This is one of the best resources I've found for OMT refresher. The pictures are sharp and well posed so you can clearly see the setup and activation necessary. An excellent atlas, wish I had had this when I was at KCOM.

Good but the author...

Okay, the story is good. It's a triad of reptilian/humanoid males with a human woman with an interesting premise. I'm sure other reviewers outlined the storyline so I won't. My reason for the three star is the need for the author to learn some basics of point of view, grammar and punctuation.

There were numerous errors in verb tense. Was and were errors abounded. Point of view flipped within paragraphs on a regular basis. Run on sentences as well as fragments littered the pages. All of these pulled me from immersion in the story which was unfortunate.

I hope the author hires an editor to make corrections. I recommend she find a teacher to help her relearn the basics of the writing aspects I mentioned. It would serve her well for her future as an author

Not so sure about all of the advice in this book

There is a lot of good information about how to get your own business up and running. The one problem is using mainstream payment processors for what we are selling which is an intangible good. However, I understand that there is a way around this by actually sending out a tangible good. My thing is just that I always worry about retaliation from someone who was unhappy or someone who wants to chargeback because they overspent. That can flag you with the merchant and then shut you down and you can forfeit all of the money you've earned. I don't know about you, but I am not about losing money that I've put time and effort into. If this were the case, I would have been running my own gig off of PP for years now but because of strict anti-adult policies I am afraid of those very things happening. Instead I work through websites that take about 30% off of the top. I suppose that's the trade off I'm willing to take to know that I'm going to get my money at the end of the day.

Doing ninety on the VanWyck expressway, Delano was intoxicated and running from the police. Cocaine, alcohol and guns littered the shinny Mercedes he was driving. His physically and verbally abused wife moved on with her life dating his best friend and his gothic daughter was a walking pharmacy. When Delano’s wife Raquel got the phone call to come and get her husband she passed out while dining at a classy restaurant. Now standing in front of him at the hospital bed, she was still fearful of him. The evil drug abuser, the woman beating alcoholic and the lying cheater asked her in a tender voice, “Hello miss do I know you?”

Charles Miller has taught at America River College for many years.

Vern Heeren received his bachelor's degree from Occidental College and his master's degree from the University of California, Davis, both in mathematics. He is a retired professor of mathematics from American River College where he was active in all aspects of mathematics education and curriculum development for thirty-eight years.�Teaming with Charles D. Miller in 1969 to write Mathematical Ideas, the pair later collaborated on Mathematics: An Everyday Experience; John Hornsby joined as co-author of Mathematical Ideas�on the later six editions.�Vern enjoys the support of his wife, three sons, three daughters in-law, and�eight grandchildren.

John Hornsby: When a young John Hornsby enrolled in Lousiana State University, he was uncertain whether he wanted to study mathematics education or journalism. Ultimately, he decided to become a teacher. After twenty five years in high school and university classrooms, each of his goals has been realized. His passion for teaching and mathematics manifests itself in his dedicated work with students and teachers, while his penchant for writing has, for twenty five years, been exercised in the writing of mathematics textbooks. Devotion to his family (wife Gwen and sons Chris, Jack, and Josh), numismatics (the study of coins) and record collecting keep him busy when he is not involved in teaching or writing. I have the fifth edition of the text, which is now in its eight edition. This is an excellent book, and it is very entertaining to read--a description that does not fit many mathematics textbooks. Although geared for students without much math background, it is an enjoyable read for all, with its engaging sidebars, its sense of the history, and believe it or not, a sense of humor (for instance, a problem requiring you to create a Venn diagram for the topics of country songs--truckers, prison and love).

A a philosopher, it is refreshing that the first 100 pages are devoted to set theory and logic--something that is not focused on often enough in basic courses. Most topics are likewise presented with a philosophical angle--for example, the first page points out the problems with defining "set." Utlimately, all definitions of set are circular--does this make "set" undisputably axiomatic? These kinds of problems are at least implied throughout the text. The effect is as deligtful as it is rare. You are not given the sense that the subject matter is complete, instead you are inspired to solve the dilemmas. While the incompleteness and conundrums are common knowledge to mathematics graduate students, they are not frequently imparted to students taking basic courses.

That is a shame. When I was in high school, I felt turned off from math--as did many of my friends, because it was presented as a dry, static subject. Memorizing formulas and theorems was like memorizing the Gettysburg Address. Mathematical Ideas does the opposite--it shows an open door for creative problem solving and makes you hungry to explore.

Suprisingly Great!

I thought that this was a fabulous book for an overview of mathematics concepts. The explanations were clear and the problems throughout each chapter and the chapter reviews were excellent practice questions for the Teachers Examination for my state (GA). Fantastic book!!

Great Textbook (Kindle Version)

This is a pretty great textbook, as far as textbooks go. Most mathematics books, in my experience, are not the best, but this book does a great job of explaining the materials, providing interesting historical/background information, giving lots of examples to work through, as well as staying relevant with current events. It even has a neat "extension" section on Cryptography.

I've had Discrete Math as part of my Computer Science curriculum at a University, and was surprised to see how much of that information is duplicated in a lower-level Liberal Arts Mathematics course. I highly recommend this book, if you are interested in basic mathematics principals (which a lot of curricula seem to gloss over in favor of hack-n-slash shortcuts for standardized tests) or if you are a student of Computer Science, the material is particularly relevant with sections on problem solving, Boolean logic, and conversion between number bases (binary, octal, hex -- all good to know for programmers).

The Kindle version overall is quite good, but note that there are restrictions on which devices can use it (as it is "formatted for larger screens"). I was only able to use the book with Kindle for PC. The Cloud Reader and my Kindle Touch could not open the book, but it seem to work on my Google Nexus 10. Hope this information helps.
