About the Author
Luc Ferry teaches at the Sorbonne and at the University of Caen in France. He is the author or coauthor of seven previous books published by the University of Chicago Press, including most recently The New Ecological Order.

Egypt Then, Egypt Now...and a love story!

The firstr time I read this book, the subject of Reincarnation was so taboo, my first copy of this book 'went missing', which was actually to say that my irate mother took it away and threw it in the trash because she didnt want me reading (her term) 'supernatural books'. Well, I had already read it and so the first day I left it home upon leaving for school....and the story stayed in my mind, that was 1976....now in 2013, I acquired another copy and read it again.....and many more things make sense. This is the story of a British born middle class woman, born Dorothy Eady to Victorian middle class parents, who suffers a fall down a flight of stairs at the age of four, and from that point on begins to experience memories of another time ( her past life) in which she was a fourteen year old priestess of Isis in Abydos who was known as Bentreshyt.

Her life was extroardinary by any standards, but for the age in which she was born to she posessed courage, and determination to follow her own destiny and was led to Egypt, a short marraige, which produced a son. Through out her life she was visited in her dreams and other times by the Pharoah Sety, her lover from the lifetime as Bentreshyt. I now understand that what Dorothy/Bentreshyt and later upon moving to her spiritual home of Abydos, where the temple was located along with the gardens that she 'remembered' and was able to prove were there..(one of many facts that turned sceptecs into believers)...Omm Sety, experienced with her initial fall was a recalibration. This is a spiritual 'awakening' which is almost always facillitated by a serious injury. She was in fact believed to be dead and was pronounced so and then 'woke up'. Aptly so, I think, and this is her story, told by Jonatrhan Cott. Omm Sety is still remembered in Abyos and in addition to this her autobiography of sorts she has authored several books on Egypt, which are well worhth delving into.

In the searth for authenticity, and truth, in matters of the heart, this takes the path,nobly. Thus, it is up to the individual reader, to determine whether or not it is 'real' or 'true'. But do read, do!

Slow start, but a worthy read

The book is slow going in the beginning - so slow and tedious in fact that it could make you wonder why you are reading it. But after getting to the core of the story, which is at least one quarter into the book, it becomes a story that is hard to put down, and very inspirational.

In my opinion, the author could have done a much better job of telling the story, but the information is still there to be appreciated

I want more!!

Being this the first biography written on Omm Sety after her death, I have to admit the author did a good job. I wish he had included more extracts from her personal diary, but it was the first introduction we ever had to Dorothy Eady and her peculiar story, so it's a good place to begin.
I liked "Omm Sety's Egypt" better, just because it has lots of diary entries and it's more into her relationship with Seti I, but anyone interested in this lady should buy both books, because they complement each other. Dr Zani (who wrote "Omm Sety's Egypt" and colaborates in this book as well) did a great job in not repeating the information Jonathan Cott included in "The search for Omm Sety".

After reading both books on her life, all I can say is that I believe her story and I whish there were more books on her, because she was such a sweet and passionate woman. While reading the book you enjoy her company, and when you reach the last page you just wish there was more.

A highly recommended read

This is my first book of inspirational poetry. All the poems contained in this book speaks about love, faith, hope, and gratitude. I love the way how the author vividly communicates her feelings in simple structured verses that inspires me, as a reader. Since I got this book, it has been my companion wherever I go. Two Stories in One

I'm not a big sports fanatic. I watch a little here and there, especially if my kids are playing, but one thing that I absolutely love and spend hours and hours and hours watching, is the Olympics. I get into all of the sports and come to know the athletes. I watch sports that I would never watch otherwise, but this big event is heaven. Podium Finish was so much fun because not only did it tell one athletes road to the Olympics, but two.

Harper and Alex are roommates at the Olympic Training Center and they're also best friends. They understand the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment it takes to succeed. I love watching them support one another. Each chapter goes back and forth between the two 17 year old girls and it's told in first person, so we can really understand their feelings and thoughts. I was completely caught up in their stories and felt this was the perfect time to read it--just a few weeks before the Winter Olympics! I'm so excited!

I loved the emotion and learning experiences these girls faced. I loved the relationships they had to figure out and deal with--teams, families, friends, enemies, etc. I even found myself shedding a few tears, although they were tears of joy and pride, I promise. The growth that occurred was perfect for their ages and experiences.

Content: there were a few mild kissing scenes and thoughts of taking things further, but making a choice not to; there was one situation of a boy and girl in the same bed, but clothed and nothing happened. Clean.

SUCH A FUN READ!

I don't even know where to start. This book came to me right at the right time. I would have loved it anyway, but with the Winter Olympics coming up and being a HUGE Olympics fan, made this book even more exciting to me.

I often wonder what goes through the heads of Olympians as they struggle each day to make the team and this was a little glimpse into that life. Whether it was real or not, it was intense. I cannot even wrap my head around that kind of competition and stress.

I cannot imagine living away from my family to train every day for hours a day knowing that my hard work may or may not pay off. It was an exiting ride from the beginning to the finish.

Figure skating is my FAVORITE Winter Olympic sport so this book made me love it even more. The hard work and dedication it takes to be an Olympian is amazing. I am not a hockey fan, especially women's hockey, but this book made me feel like I was right there watching it go down, and I loved it.

I loved how Harper and Alex found their joy in being in the competition. They lived for it. I could really feel the emotions they were going through while reading this book. I found my self feeling anxious just waiting to hear who made the final cut for the Hockey team. That is how in to this book I was. I LOVE it when an author does that for me.

I don't think there is anything I didn't like about this book. It was exciting, interesting, intense, and had a love story to boot. Seriously a great read. A fun read!

Fantastic book

Podium Finish is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. This is a great novel that tells us the story of a group of teenagers training for the Olympic Games. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The author did a great job portraying the main characters, Harper and Alex. If you like reading stories about friendship, sports, Olympic Games, family, etc. this is the book for you. It has got everything, funny moments, romantic moments, etc. I can't wait to read more books from Beth Pond.

A Valuable Resource for Hikers in the Smokies

This first edition contains some information that is omitted from the second edition, such as specific information about manways and abandoned trails. It also includes the time it takes to travel a particular trail, a feature missing from the second edition. Nonetheless, either edition is a great resource for a Smokies hiker. I particularly enjoyed the historic and cultural background information that goes well beyond a standard "trail guide."

The more you use it, the better it gets

I've owned my copy about a year. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed with the comprehensiveness. After using it to plan and go on two 3-night hikes in the GSMNP, I have come to greatly appreciate this book and especially its layout. Mr. Wise needs to be commended on the organization of the material. His trail descriptions are arranged by sections or watersheds, which corresponds to entries points to the Park. This allows the hiker to more easily plan since all the connecting trails descriptions are grouped together. I own three hiking trail books on the Smokies, and I keep coming back to this one.

Best hiking book.

Having many hiking books of the Smoky Mountains this is by far still the best one out there. The discriptions of the hike is why you buy this book. The discriptions tell you what you are looking at, history, and land. I look at other books and then reference this one as to what the hike really is like and what I am going to encounter and see along the way. Also there are hikes and places in this book you will not find in any other book for example: Mills Creek Falls Trail which cannot be found in any other book because this trail today is not a maintained trail in the park but is easily found and hiked. This may be an older book but is still the best. An oldie but still a goodie.
