Narcissistic leaders are fueled by narcissistic followers who also find value from belonging to a great cause. Signs of an abusive system are: power-posturing; distorted loyalty; people are being used; unhealthy centrality of the pastor; an elitist attitude; inability to discuss concerns; and people being labeled as divisive for raising valid issues. Those trapped in abusive systems can either flee or fight. Throughout this booklet reference is made to recent events at Mars Hill Church.

Truly helpful and well written

As I've recently learned about spiritual abuse and what it looks like, I have read many different pieces of information on it trying to understand it. However, this was the book/article I kept coming back to as a reference. I would encourage anyone involved in a church to read through this and be aware of the signs. I did not realize what I had been experiencing in my church was an abusive environment and I have been going to church for the last 15 years! This is definitely worth reading. Thank you to the author for all for your hard work in writing this piece and helping those who've been hurt by the church in this way to find freedom again through the love and grace of our God.

If it werent for my love for God

I totally get what you are saying! Thank you for making people aware. My world crashed a couple months ago. I thought my life was over but God is bigger. You sharing helps me understand so so much more!! If it werent for my love for God, i would want nothing to do with christianity or christians. Will u help me share my short story by reviewing a couple of my books as we all stick together. You can find them: L.K Herdman, my main story is Fallen to Freedom, my others are under my name. Noone believes me. They all look at the pastor as king. Its been very difficult. Thank you again for writing your book.

No New Insights

Very quick read. This is an attempt to tie in some points about spiritual abuse (taught in other books) to what happened at Mars Hill. There are some typos and formatting errors. Not really worth the $2.99 to purchase, but you may read for free with Kindle Unlimited, which I did. There really aren't any new insights here if you have read the main books available on spiritual abuse.
