Hopefully The End Of The Series!

This is the fourth book in this series.Our hero is once again Christain

Gillette.He was elected Chairman of Everest by one vote.Since being the chairman he has had phenomenal sucess at making money for the firm.

In this newest book there is once again a plot to do Christain in.Victoria Graham,the chairperson of PennMu and members of the Washington D.C. power trust have hire Melissa Hart to get close to Christian Gillette and keep them informed of his plans.Victoria Graham and her cohorts have also hired Steven Sanchez a contract killer to deal

with Christian Gillette.

Christian Gillette is called upon by President Jesse Wood to act as a laison in Cuba.Wood is the first black American President.Cuba is about to undergo a coup.Wood wants Christian to talk to the leaders of the coup,

a group called Secret Six.Victoria Graham and her coconspirators want to use this event to nail President Wood and Christian for their part.They

want revenge on Christian for stopping the nano technology plot.

This would have been a good book if you would have left out the Cuba

plan.This dropped the book several levels.Our friend Quentin Stiles was also killed in this latest book.I hope that Frey goes back to writing good business books.

A Dissenting Opinion

This is the fourth in a series and although other reviewers have said the predecessors are better, I do not think I will indulge. I did not think this book was very good.

The premise of this book is that a rich capitalist is, for some unfathomable reason, picked by the president to decide if a group of revolutionaries in Cuba are the right ones to accomplish a coup. Getting there is apparently the trick. As absolutely loveable as this icon of capitalism is, it is somewhat - and only somewhat - apparent that there are at least two groups who want to kill him. When and where and why are all left to the last pages. There are women all over the place fawning over him and yet possibly conspiring against him. Very little makes sense for the first 198 pages. The book is written with glances at all the characters a few pages at a time. These glances are as disorganized as the rest of the book. I am not sure why this is described as a "thriller". It was a hard journey to get to Cuba with many asides that did not add to the plot or the characters.

The characters are all cardboard cut-outs. How's this for an original character? The icon's best friend is his black security director who was saved from gangs by his grandmother who enlisted him in the Army. Of course, he was Special Ops and then retired to go into private security. That's about all the depth you get of him. No character had any particular depth, which you would expect from a fourth book in a series.

In the end, the parts do come together. The coup is accomplished in about 2 1/2 pages and Gillette, the star, is only in country for about 8 pages. It did not seem as if Mr. Frey knew how to get from point A, the assignment, to point B, the coup in Cuba. He tried to get all sorts of intrigue with love and spies, but it just didn't work. Just to complete the formulaic nature of this book. At the end, the star leaves, waling into the sunset. Literally.

I would suggest passing over this book. If you want corporate intrigue go with Finder's books and skip this one.

I liked the first few Frey novels of high finance and the people who deal with money - good and especially the bad, but now I have the feeling that I am re-reading the same book over and over. The writing is adequete, and the characters are interesting, but sorry to say it seems to be the same plot over and over. The author has come to a point where he needs to stretch a little more or risk losing his audience.

Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine 3e

It's here. What we've all been waiting for. The third edition of the OTPM. And it does not disappoint.
This edition looks to be largely re-written, not just up-dated, and there are many new contributors. There is a new section on the palliation of non-malignant disease, which I think will be particularly useful for the majority of us who deal primarily with advanced cancer. New chapters deal with the role of each of the allied health professionals who make up the multidisciplinary team. There are also new chapters on the principles of evidence-based medicine and on learning communication skills, both of which I think are particularly welcome.
It is not possible to review each section of what is a very large textbook. Overall, it provides good coverage of the whole field of palliative medicine. Duplication, as may occur in any multi-authored text, has been kept to a minimum. Although it has about the same number of pages, the use of a smaller (but very legible) font gives the impression that this edition is considerably larger and has a lot more information than the previous one. I have to declare that I wrote the chapter on HIV/AIDS in Adults, about which nothing more will be said, but had nothing else to do with the production of this book.
Is it up to date? I browsed a few areas where practice has changed in the last few years and found good coverage for selective COX-2 inhibitors, NMDA receptor antagonists and interventional radiology, although the usefulness of low molecular weight heparins in palliative care has not been emphasized.
Is it worth it? The book is not cheap by anybody's standards. But the answer has to be yes because this book will remain the gold standard reference in palliative medicine for the next few years at least. The editors are to be congratulated on the successful completion of what is a very impressive reference. And all who work in palliative medicine owe a debt of gratitude to Derek Doyle, who has now pioneered this book through three editions.

Great book

I am fascinated by the field of pallative care, being a medical doctor preparing to be board certified in palliative care. In preparation for the board exam, I purchased both this book and Eduardo Bruera's Textbook of Palliative Medicine.
I must say this is the better book. It has 1666 pages so is not light reading, but treats the subject matter in greater depth than Bruera's textbook.
I have not yet found a board review type condensed book for exam preparation, so it is challenging to have to go through hundreds of pages to prepare for an exam. Nevertheless, this is a comprehensive and useful book.

Seriously have never disliked a "heroine" in a story as much as I ...

Seriously have never disliked a "heroine" in a story as much as I disliked this one. Just completely selfish, self absorbed, woe is me...she was awful. The overall story could have held up if she wasn't such a terrible character. One of the few books that I've ever read where the main character didn't even redeem them self by the end of the story. Ugh :(

A wonderful debut novel!

Hard is the debut novel for author Sosie Frost, and wow, what an achievement! This is a well-written, smooth-flowing, steamy romance featuring a gorgeous, solid, tattooed, scarred, hunky as hell, ex- Navy SEAL who was injured in combat by an IED named Zach, and his equally stunning, sweet, kind-hearted, generous stepsister, Shay. I’ll try not to give too many spoilers.

The book begins in a bar, where Shay is drowning her sorrows; her father and his prospective bride were killed in a car crash, so their wedding has now turned into a funeral. I have to admit that, while it’s not really funny in real life, the funeral/wedding scenes were a bit funny: the recycled wedding cake, people leaving wedding gifts at the coffin during the wake, the flower girls running amok around the coffin...but I digress.
While drinking away her sorrow, Shay meets Zach, who, like I mentioned before, is a hunky, hot man. He makes passes at her, she rebuffs, but eventually one thing leads to another, and the first chapters of the book are hot, hot, hot!

The problem comes afterward, when Shay learns that Zach is her stepbrother. Oh, no, he didn’t! Yup, he did! He knew the whole time. Shame on you, Zach! So, things happen, Shay and Zach learn some interesting things at the reading of the will, and things heat up (not in a good way).
I won’t spoil the book for you, so you will have to read this for yourself to see what happens, but this book is well worth the read. I loved the way the story and their relationship developed; I loved Zach so much... he was so determined to win Shay’s heart, and you’ve gotta love a man who is so into a woman.

Dangerous things are going on with Zach, and you will need to read the book to see what I mean, but I’m glad for the ending of the book. The ending was so awesome, and I think Sosie did an amazing job!

I’d give this a solid 4.5-5 stars.

Hard to Forget. Loved the Intensity

This book starts out with such passion, fire and with a hidden agenda. Loved it. What more can you ask for between step siblings. Shay is fixing to burying her father and was going thru the mourning of a man she really wasn’t able to know and runs into a handsome man at a bar, named Zach” Hard” Harden. One thing leads to another and they had an intense night of passion to which she loved. She wished she had gotten the SEAL’s phone number but with everything going on, she just figured it was for the best. Later after the funeral, she goes to see her father’s lawyer and who should she see there? Zach…and she finds out he is her new step brother. Boy is she highly upset yet still attracted to him. When she finds out that her dad left the estate to both of them, she is so upset because it should be to her, not him. She is completely hurt and angry that Zach is left half when he didn’t know her father at long while she didn’t get to know him any.
Zach knew when he saw her who she was but she completely entranced him. He wanted her and he had gone thru some horrible times overseas. He had been badly injured and he was back home trying to recover when his mom and new stepdad had been killed. Zach is this sweet, alpha male who sees the woman of his dreams and he knew what would happen when he seduced her and she found out who he was to her but he took the risk. Well, Shay sure was mad but Zach still continued to pursue his woman. At times he was cocksure with her while Shay has a lifetime of hurt bottled up inside due to how she was raised. The two come together and the story takes a complex turn of events with passion and emotions that raise this from a general stepbrother story to a beautiful, complex story full of emotions that is great and I loved it. I loved the outcome and hope to read more from this author.

Great for beginners and those man or woman enough to admit they want to be better kissers

This is in all honesty really a book for people figuring out how to kiss, either those who have never kissed - like pre-teens who want to be sure they don't screw up - or people who have kissed - and are man or woman enough to admit they're pretty bad at it.

There's a trivia section at the front and a how-to section after that. If you're not into knowing the kind of obscure facts that come up on Jeopardy! then it's fine to just skip ahead and get to the real reason you bought the book.

Granted, it can be off-putting to have the steps and techniques of something as intimate as kissing explained in great detail. Just keep in mind that the point here is to teach a good basic technique from the ground up, and I found the no-nonsense approach of the author, splashed with a healthy dose of (forgive the pun) tongue-in-cheek humor, to be a great way of breaking the awkwardness of things like realizing you've been puckering your lips wrong all along. There's even a handy flow chart!

Really, when you've had it clearly explained to you how to do it right, you can focus more on how fun it is to kiss!

Everything You SHOULD Already Know

Knowing that this book was really meant all in good fun makes me pause before saying anything negative about it. How can you NOT love kissing, and who wouldn't want to read an entire book about such an engaging topic. Granted, Ms. Edmark provides the reader with many entertaining quotes pertaining to smooching, snogging, face-sucking, whatever term you prefer. This book contains quotes by everyone from Dorothy Parker to Princess Leia. However, once you get into the real meat of the book, it is rather off-putting to find exact descriptions as to how to perform something as simple as a French Kiss. Perhaps this book might be of some assistance to those preteen romantics, wondering if they are doing it "right." But the book is fun, and I guarantee that you can find at least one kind of kiss that you've never even thought of trying, and I'll bet that you'll run to your lover and demonstrate immediately.

About the Author
David C. Lay holds a B.A. from Aurora University (Illinois), and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles. David Lay has been an educator and research mathematician since 1966, mostly at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has also served as a visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam, the Free University in Amsterdam, and the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He has published more than 30 research articles on functional analysis and linear algebra. As a founding member of the NSF-sponsored Linear Algebra Curriculum Study Group, David Lay has been a leader in the current movement to modernize the linear algebra curriculum. Lay is also a coauthor of several mathematics texts, including "Introduction to Functional Analysis "with Angus E. Taylor, "Calculus and Its Applications," with L. J. Goldstein and D. I. Schneider, and "Linear Algebra Gems-Assets for Undergraduate Mathematics, "with D. Carlson, C. R. Johnson, and A. D. Porter. David Lay has received four university awards for teaching excellence, including, in 1996, the title of Distinguished Scholar--Teacher of the University of Maryland. In 1994, he was given one of the Mathematical Association of America's Awards for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics. He has been elected by the university students to membership in Alpha Lambda Delta National Scholastic Honor Society and Golden Key National Honor Society. In 1989, Aurora University conferred on him the Outstanding Alumnus award. David Lay is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Canadian Mathematical Society, the International Linear Algebra Society, the Mathematical Association of America, Sigma Xi, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Since 1992, he has served several terms on the national board of the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. Steven R. Lay began his teaching career at Aurora University (Illinois) in 1971, after earning an M.A. and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California at Los Angeles. His career in mathematics was interrupted for eight years while serving as a missionary in Japan. Upon his return to the States in 1998, he joined the mathematics faculty at Lee University (Tennessee) and has been there ever since. Since then he has supported his brother David in refining and expanding the scope of this popular linear algebra text, including writing most of Chapters 8 and 9. Steven is also the author of three college-level mathematics texts: "Convex Sets and Their Applications, Analysis with an Introduction to Proof," and "Principles of Algebra. "In 1985, Steven received the Excellence in Teaching Award at Aurora University. He and David, and their father, Dr. L. Clark Lay, are all distinguished mathematicians, and in 1989 they jointly received the Outstanding Alumnus award from their alma mater, Aurora University. In 2006, Steven was honored to receive the Excellence in Scholarship Award at Lee University. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematics Association of America, and the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. Judi J. McDonald joins the authorship team after working closely with David on the fourth edition. She holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Alberta, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. She is currently a professor at Washington State University. She has been an educator and research mathematician since the early 90s. She has more than 35 publications in linear algebra research journals. Several undergraduate and graduate students have written projects or theses on linear algebra under Judi's supervision. She has also worked with the mathematics outreach project Math Central http: //mathcentral.uregina.ca/ and continues to be passionate about mathematics education and outreach. Judi has received three teaching awards: two Inspiring Teaching awards at the University of Regina, and the Thomas Lutz College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Award at Washington State University. She has been an active member of the International Linear Algebra Society and the Association for Women in Mathematics throughout her career and has also been a member of the Canadian Mathematical Society, the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
