About the Author
Hossein Bidgoli, Ph.D., is professor of Management Information Systems at California State University. Dr. Bidgoli helped set up the first PC Lab in the United States and served as its first director. He is the author of 45 textbooks, 27 manuals and more than five dozen technical articles and papers on various aspects of computer applications, information systems and network security, e-commerce and decision support systems published and presented throughout the world. Dr. Bidgoli also serves as the editor-in-chief of THE HANDBOOK OF TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT, THE INTERNET ENCYCLOPEDIA, THE HANDBOOK OF INFORMATION SECURITY, THE HANDBOOK OF COMPUTER NETWORKS, and THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS. Professor Bidgoli is a very knowledgeable man and has done a great job at creating this book and keeping it relevant

Whether taking an MIS course or just looking to learn more information about the MIS field this book will teach you what you need to know. Professor Bidgoli keeps his information and case studies up to date with the latest information and news. The information provided in the book is essential to anybody looking to be in the MIS or business fields. The book will open your mind to a world of MIS and IT that many people may not know, not only through the text but through the many online resources that come along with it. Professor Bidgoli is a very knowledgeable man and has done a great job at creating this book and keeping it relevant. If you have the opportunity to take his course, don't pass it up! He is an amazing professor and writer, and I highly recommend this book for anybody looking for a complete introduction to MIS.

This is a great detailed introduction to management information systems

This is a great detailed introduction to management information systems. Every chapter includes helpful study tools, as well as detachable study cards in the back of the book. There are multiple case studies in each of the chapters that relate the concepts to real world businesses. I would recommend this book to anyone who was interested in learning more about IT and for anyone who is thinking about going into any aspect of business. With the business world using more and more information technologies it is necessary that people and companies stay current on the every changing world of technology. And that people in the business world know how to use these technologies effectively. Bidgoli's fifth edition of MIS is a very helpful first step in this process. Great for students and anyone looking to learn more about management information systems.

If you run a business you need this book.

Rafi is the guru on pricing as he has been consulting on it for over 20 years. His previous book , The Art of Pricing, was a good book, but this one goes much further into the topic with great examples , worksheets and a step by step plan for a pricing strategy . Did you know that when it comes to pricing there are :

* Four fundamental pricing strategies
* Fifty pricing tactics
* Two offensive pricing blossom (his model) strategies
* Six defensive pricing blossom strategies and
* Thirteen culture-of-profit principles?

This is a very thorough study and it is so clearly written that you can read it like a novel. I could not put this one down. It is the best writing on pricing I have ever come across. if you run a business you need this book.

Insightful and instructive

Don't be misled by the title that increasing profits is as easy as raising prices 1% across the board. It's not that simple! Of course, setting prices arbitrarily is easy, but as Rafi Mohammed so clearly demonstrates, setting prices to maximize profits by capturing the whole spectrum of value is an art. With different people placing different values on all kinds and aspects of products and services, setting prices should be a much more complicated and challenging process than is generally realized. This book navigates the reader through the process with accessible strategies and illustrations of how to maximize those unrealized profits. As a new business owner, I have found this book to be an extremely valuable tool as I make my pricing decisions.

Be careful about ordering the 3rd edition of this book. The book I received was from a printing where the text and figures were riddled with text rendering errors, resulting in large blank spaces where there should have been text. I didn't get far into the book because I needed it for school and I was forced to return it before my class got too far underway. Amazon accepted the return but I have no idea what the publisher is doing about this problem. My instructor is one of the authors and even he had not heard back from them two weeks after reporting the problem.

Excellent book

I am 22. I found this rare book at a library sells, they were having a sell and sold this vbook for [money]. My interest at that time was compiler design. It was more out of curiosity, than for any real project. So, maybe this review is not from the perpsective of a professional, but a curious student 3 years ago. I did find this book to be rather incitive. This book is also heavy on terminology. As in the first chapter they give a detailed desciption of different classes of compilers. The second chapter goes into lexical analysis. And the next few chapters they give the student an excercise to write a small compiler, that is rather trivial. That is the plus of this book, they give excercises for the student.
This book also has a chapter on scanning, which is the best I ever seen in any compiler design book I have ever read. They talk about concepts of set theory as it relates to lexical analysis. Then they talk about regular expression and Fintie automata. This book is a great read indeed, and very easy to read.
There are quite of few chapters dedicated to parsing. In the chapters related to parsing they give a comparisons to Top Down and Bottom up parsing. They even go well known utilities like Yacc. The last few chapters go into depth chapter by chapter on implementing control structures:conditional, itereative, recursive. Even the appropiate runtimes, like code generation. There is even one chapter that goes into the fundemental Data Structures for a compiler. The last chapters is called "Parsing In The Real World".
The code example in this book are based off of a language the ADA-CS langauge. There is a brief tutorial of this language. But the code is just illustration, as they do not use a full langauge for the illustration. I think this is important, because the book focuses more on design rather then design with a particular langauge.
I really cant find anything wrong with this book. I definitely got more than my money's worth on this book. As I only spent [money] on this book. But I would have easily spent [money] on this book easily. Simply because I am drawn to this type of information. And even in 1999 when I found this book, compiler design was not demanded in the workplace much, I still find this a great book for students.
I would encourage anyone to purchase this book. If you can find this book that is. I'm sure this book is very hard rto find. My book is a Instructors book, and was not previously for sell. But if you ever see this book at a yard sell, lirbrary sell, please pick it up. Especially if you are student.

The story is a little confusing at first, but once you keep reading, it get's good.

I purchased this book about a month or 2 ago, I am always open to new books, and I never judge a book by it's cover, for starters it did confuse me in the beginning, as I was wondering who is Paul? Did Lorena once fall in love with him? what history did they have before this book? I do not like when books keep me puzzled and have no answers to my questions. another thing I noticed was that the story was talking about another story of why Paul left, why Troy got married with Palith, what background they had, which lost me in the beginning of the book. Again, I do not like feeling lost, meaning confused and puzzled, wondering what the heck is going on. But, I kept reading, giving it a chance to impress me... and it did. which is why I give it a rating of four stars, it is not one of the greatest books, but it does keep you wanting to read further. I like how Paul came back for Lorena and they reunite to fight together against Primus and his victims. The book is getting really interesting, and I am still reading, anxious to know what will happened next. As every book, it has it's ups and downs, all in all this is a good book, I am not finished with it, for I am on the chapter titled History. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves vampire books with a heart warming twist to it. Regardless how lost it got me in the beginning, little by little things came together and made sense. I praise this book and definitely would give it to someone who loves vampire books.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A fairly well written vampire book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great vampire movie, animated cartoon, or mini TV series. It was kind of cheesy by I’m sure a YA age would like it. To be continued. I will only rate it at 3/5 stars.

This book isn't flatlined, it has a strong steady pulse!

I haven't made it to the end yet, and unless it is horrible, this will stay a 5 star rating. Here we have demons, angels, humans and vampires. We have one very scared sixteen year old girl, Lorena. She has stumbled into a world that she no concept of, and it has put her life and the lives of everyone she cares about at great risk. Paul is currently a vampire. His goal, to become human and by doing so, end all vampires. That is not a simple task, and soon Lorena is on a ride that keeps the pages turning long into the night.

I really liked this new author. I enjoyed her creative take on the existence of vampires. From reading her write-ups and this book, I like her sense of humor as well. I thoroughly enjoyed certain parts, such as this one; "Fear is faith in death. Fear is faith that God won't be there. You cannot afford to let fear rob you now."

I look forward to finishing this book, and would have done so first if I hadn't had to have my review up in time.

About the Authors:
Adrian Farrel has two decades of experience designing and developing portable communications software. He is an industry-leading freelance consultant on GMPLS, formerly working as MPLS Architect for Data Connection, Ltd., and as Director of Protocol Development for Movaz Networks, Inc. He is active within the IETF, where he is co-chair of the CCAMP working group responsible for GMPLS, the Path Computation Element (PCE) working group, and the Layer One VPN (L1VPN) working group. Adrian has co-authored and contributed to numerous Internet drafts and RFCs on MPLS, GMPLS, and related technologies.

Igor Bryskin is Chief Protocol Architect at Movaz Networks, Inc., where he is responsible for high–level and detailed architecture of the GMPLS control plane software running on Movaz’s optical cross-connects. He has been involved in data communications since the 1980s and has worked since the 1990s primarily in the areas of IP/MPLS and ATM. Igor has served as principal author or co-author of several Internet drafts and RFCs in the area of MPLS and GMPLS.

About the Author
Adrian Farrel has nearly two decades of experience designing and developing portable communications software. As MPLS Architect and Development Manager at Data Connection Ltd., he led a team that produced a carrier-class MPLS implementation for customers in the router space. As Director of Protocol Development for Movaz Networks, Inc., he helped build a cutting-edge system that integrated many IP-based protocols to control and manage optical switches. Adrian is active within the IETF, where he is co-chair of the CCAMP working group responsible for GMPLS. He has co-authored and contributed to numerous Internet Drafts and RFCs on MPLS, GMPLS, and related technologies. He was a founding board member of the MPLS Forum, frequently speaks at conferences, and is the author of several white papers on GMPLS.

I bought the book to check whether the modern optical ...

I bought the book to check whether the modern optical transport routing has administrative metric for each link. And the author is honest enough to say is straight forward. The book's content is many many years old and a large portion of it is already deprecated. But, I still give it 5 stars because it gives a historical perspective to career engineers. The author's writing is honest, so that you sense the true trend of the industry. So much so, that you can derive the trend on your own, and that is more assuring than chasing after pieces of latest documents and drafts that you don't know how long they stay valid.

Provides good understanding of GMPLS

I've been doing research in control planes for transport networks and needed to learn about GMPLS. This book does a very good job at explaining what GMPLS is, the set of protocols it involves and how each one works, including sequence diagrams for some of less known ones (to me) such as LMP. There are enough network diagrams associated with examples to give you a clear picture of what's going on. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about GMPLS. If more in-depth information is required, you can always go look at the RFCs.

Great review of GMPLS

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because of its age. 2006, and its nearly 2010. With advancement in this protocol and the advent of GMPLS/GELS for ethernet control plane for Carrier Ethernet this books screams for a 2nd edition (even if in PDF format only). And perhaps a chapter giving a run down of GMPLS implementations by major vendors. Both those that supply network nodes and a control server, and those that build the control plane server only (like Soap Stone until Extreme Networks bought them).
